Asbestos is a natural occurring mineral mined all over the world, and found in the ground. It can be identified under the microscope, and when disturbed releases microscopic fibers into the air. When people are exposed to these fibers and inhale the asbestos into their lungs, it can be deadly.
There are three types of asbestos:
Amosite
Crocodolite
Chrysotile
Many years ago thousands of workers and their families were exposed to these fibers, without knowledge of related health risks. Symptoms usually don't become apparent for many years, usually after 15-40 years later. Now many of those workers exposed, are beginning to show symptoms, or be diagnosed with disease related to asbestos exposure.
