Living With Cancer | Sharing Diagnosis | After Treatment | Quality of Life | Caregiving | Family & Friends
It is normal to experience a vast amount of emotions after learning you have cancer. Denial is the most common first reaction. This is natural, and your bodies defense against the shock. It will help to soften the blow, and give you time to get used to the news. It may be good to talk to someone who is not emotionally attached to your case, but may have expertise in this area. There are two very good resources available to cancer patience.
Cancer Care Hotline 1.800.813.HOPE
CancerCare.org is staffed by oncology social workers who handle calls from individuals suffering from all types of cancer.
ALCASE Hotline 1.800.298.2436
The Alliance for Lung Cancer Advocacy, Support, and Education provides this hotline for information and support specifically for lung cancer.
Every person diagnosed with cancer handles the news in their own unique way. Try and make efforts to give yourself time to cope and adjust to the news. Remember to be realistic, but optimistic as well.
